Athens, Greece Day 3: Dinner at Funky Gourmet
For my birthday dinner, Bill brought me to a restaurant called Funky Gourmet. The entrance to the restaurant is manned by a man in a suit. When we arrived, the man greeted us and once we confirmed we had a reservation at Funky Gourmet, he let us in. The outside of the building doesn’t have a sign with the name of the restaurant on it, hence the need for the man in a suit at the front door to greet the lost tourists.
The restaurant was empty when we arrived. We were swiftly seated at our table. The service here is very formal and we felt slightly out of place with our casual attire.
They offer 2 menus, and we went for the more expensive one that had more courses.
Greek bottarga tartlet with white chocolate
Invisible rabbit ‘Stifado’
‘Tsoureki’ bread and buttermilk (Our least favorite course)
Red mullet a la Dali
Sea urchin pocket
Greek salad (in the form of snow – it really tasted like a Greek salad!)
The Silence of the Lamb (actual lamb brain – if you’re uncomfortable with eating brain, you can substitute this dish)
Ferrero Rocher (Contains foie gras – again, if you’re uncomfortable with eating foie gras, you can substitute this dish)
Cheese, one of a kind
Soft boiled egg
And finally some post christmas decorations 🙂
The menu is one of the most original and creative menus we have ever encountered. The flavours were a complete surprise and there was definitely a shock factor in the menu. It’s on the expensive side, but it was really fun 🙂
